VH-AEF
1966 Cessna 337A - Super Skymaster
Affectionately know by those who have flown it or flown in it as "The Mixmaster", "huff n' puff", "that bloody aeroplane" or "AEF".
We have owned AEF since 1992. After a trip covering NSW, Queensland, Northern Territory and South Australia in 1990 in a Cessna 172 we started looking for a suitable aircraft of our own.
It was decided that we wanted an aircraft with > 6 hours endurance, high wing and multi engine.
After looking at numerous high wing multi-engine aircraft (Partenavia, Shrike Commander, Islander) we found AEF and it met all our needs plus the price was right.
So here we are 17 years later and still flying around Australia in her.
The photo on the right (courtesy of Ziggie Ziegler) was taken just after the 1998 Mobil Outback Air Race over Whitsunday Passage near Day Dream Island with all the sponsors logos still on.
Just recently the aircraft has been completely overhauled, including new paint, so no longer carries the logos from the 1998, 2000 and 2001 air races.
Previous owners (not all of them) have been:
- Aerial Enterprises (thus the registration)
- Transwest
- Desert Safaris
